How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different connector pins and they have different functions but the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors are not firing anymore. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

3. Fuel Pump
